He played for four different teams as a center and right fielder, spending most of his career with the Montreal Expos and Chicago Cubs. An 8-time National League (NL) All-Star, he was named the league's Rookie of the Year in 1977 after batting .282 with 19 home runs and 65 runs batted in (RBI), and won the Most Valuable Player Award in 1987 after leading the league with 49 homers and 137 RBI; he had been runner-up for the award in both 1981 and 1983. He batted .300 five times, drove in 100 runs four times and had 13 seasons of 20 home runs. A strong base-runner early in his career, he also stole 30 bases three times. He is one of eight MLB players with at least 300 home runs and 300 stolen bases during his career. Dawson was a center fielder until knee problems \u2013 worsened by the artificial surface at Olympic Stadium \u2013 forced his shift to right field, followed by his move to a team which played on grass. He led the NL in outfield putouts three consecutive years (1981\u20131983), and won eight Gold Glove Awards for fielding excellence. Dawson was known for his incredible work ethic and study of the game. He was often seen in the dugout with a clipboard in-hand documenting pitches and pitcher tendencies. This was long before such practices were common-place and such information was readily available.","birth_date":"1954-07-10","birth_place":"Miami","birth_place_coordinates":{"latitude":25.783333,"longitude":-80.216667},"birth_place_wikidata_id":"Q8652","birth_place_wikidata_url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8652","canonical_name":"Andre Dawson","canonical_url":"https://zh-cn.instaget.online/people/906b772550acb3de453c384c","citizenships":["United States"],"death_date":null,"description":"American baseball player","external_ids":{"isni":{"id":"000000004400897X","url":"https://isni.org/isni/000000004400897X"},"loc":{"id":"n94068430","url":"https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n94068430.html"},"viaf":{"id":"48459164","url":"https://viaf.org/viaf/48459164/"}},"full_name":"Andre Dawson","height_cm":null,"names":{"aliases":["Andre Nolan Dawson"],"birth":[],"native":[],"official":[]},"native_name":null,"notable_works":[],"occupations":["baseball player"],"official_websites":[],"photo":{"author":"User Sacoo on en.wikipedia","license":"CC BY 3.0","license_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/","source":"Wikimedia Commons","source_url":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Andre_dawson.jpg","url":"https://instaget-public-commons.tor1.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/public/commons/1ed14b0a6bc038db0b0596abe6ec9d885f1f472838653cfa0baa601eec824692"},"profile_url":"https://zh-cn.instaget.online/people/906b772550acb3de453c384c","provenance":{"catalog":"wikidata_wikipedia","fetched_at":"2026-08-29T07:24:15Z","social_archives_included":false,"source_url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q127582"},"public_hash":"906b772550acb3de453c384c","schema_version":"1.1","socials":{},"tags":[{"key":"category:sports","label":"Sports","type":"category"},{"key":"occupation:baseball player","label":"baseball player","type":"occupation"},{"key":"country:miami","label":"Miami","type":"country"},{"key":"citizenship:united states","label":"United States","type":"citizenship"}],"wikidata_id":"Q127582","wikidata_url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q127582","wikipedia_url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andre_Dawson"}
