{"aliases":[],"awards":[],"biography_summary":"Marcus Aurelius Antoninus ( ; ; 26 April 121 \u2013 17 March 180) was Roman emperor from 161 to 180 and a Stoic philosopher. He was a member of the Nerva\u2013Antonine dynasty, the last of the rulers later known as the Five Good Emperors and the last emperor of the Pax Romana, an age of relative peace, calm, and stability for the Roman Empire lasting from 27 BC to 180 AD. He served as Roman consul in 140, 145, and 161. Marcus Aurelius was the son of the praetor Marcus Annius Verus and his wife Domitia Calvilla. He was related through marriage to the emperors Trajan and Hadrian. Marcus was three when his father died, and he was raised by his mother and paternal grandfather. After Hadrian's adoptive son, Aelius Caesar, died in 138, Hadrian adopted Marcus's uncle Antoninus Pius as his new heir. In turn, Antoninus adopted Marcus and Lucius, the son of Aelius. Hadrian died that year, and Antoninus became emperor. Now heir to the throne, Marcus studied Greek and Latin under tutors such as Herodes Atticus and Marcus Cornelius Fronto. He married Antoninus's daughter Faustina in 145. After Antoninus died in 161, Marcus acceded to the throne alongside his adoptive brother, who took the regnal name Lucius Aurelius Verus. Under the reign of Marcus Aurelius, the Roman Empire witnessed much military conflict. In the East, the Romans fought the Parthian War of Lucius Verus with a revitalised Parthian Empire and the rebel Kingdom of Armenia. Marcus defeated the Marcomanni, Quadi, and Iazyges in the Marcomannic Wars.","birth_date":"0121-04-26","birth_place":"Rome","birth_place_coordinates":{"latitude":41.893056,"longitude":12.482778},"birth_place_wikidata_id":"Q220","birth_place_wikidata_url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q220","canonical_name":"Marcus Aurelius","canonical_url":"https://zh-cn.instaget.online/people/06ad23ffd57526bef8db1115","citizenships":["Ancient Rome"],"death_date":"0180-03-17","description":"16th Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 and Stoic philosopher","external_ids":{"isni":{"id":"000000011031946X","url":"https://isni.org/isni/000000011031946X"},"loc":{"id":"n80051702","url":"https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80051702.html"},"viaf":{"id":"102895066","url":"https://viaf.org/viaf/102895066/"}},"full_name":"Marcus Aurelius","height_cm":null,"names":{"aliases":["Caesar Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus","Marcus Annius Verus","Marcus Catilius Severus Annius Verus","Verissimus","Marcus Aurelius Verus","Antoninus"],"birth":[{"language":"la","source_property":"P1477","value":"Marcus Catilius Severus Annius Verus"}],"native":[{"language":"la","source_property":"P1559","value":"Marcus Aurelius Antoninus"}],"official":[]},"native_name":null,"notable_works":["Meditations"],"occupations":["politician","philosopher","writer","monarch"],"official_websites":[],"photo":null,"profile_url":"https://zh-cn.instaget.online/people/06ad23ffd57526bef8db1115","provenance":{"catalog":"wikidata_wikipedia","fetched_at":"2026-08-29T06:43:50Z","social_archives_included":false,"source_url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1430"},"public_hash":"06ad23ffd57526bef8db1115","schema_version":"1.1","socials":{},"tags":[{"key":"category:arts-and-culture","label":"Arts and culture","type":"category"},{"key":"category:politics-and-public-service","label":"Politics and public service","type":"category"},{"key":"category:science-and-academia","label":"Science and academia","type":"category"},{"key":"occupation:politician","label":"politician","type":"occupation"},{"key":"occupation:philosopher","label":"philosopher","type":"occupation"},{"key":"occupation:writer","label":"writer","type":"occupation"},{"key":"occupation:monarch","label":"monarch","type":"occupation"},{"key":"country:rome","label":"Rome","type":"country"},{"key":"citizenship:ancient rome","label":"Ancient Rome","type":"citizenship"}],"wikidata_id":"Q1430","wikidata_url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1430","wikipedia_url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Aurelius"}
